Hurling in Killtullagh/Killimordaly Parish National Schools

Children in all the schools in the parish are afforded  the opportunity to play hurling while at school. The children are encouraged to participate by the teachers, they receive coaching and play matches regularly. Parents have their input by attending matches and  supporting the teams. Children of all abilities are supported in the development and acquisition of the skills of hurling. Club and county games are discussed and reported on in the classes. We have links with Killimordaly hurling club and are always trying to encourage the children to support and join their local club. We are delighted when the players and management visit after being victorious in competitions. We are also very grateful to the club for providing support in the form of free hurls and sliotars each year. All schools participate in Cumann na mBunscol competitions, Mini 7 games and/or local blitzes.
Occasionally we have a visit by local county hurler or camogie player and these sessions are really enjoyed by the children. The children of the four schools are coached by Ger Moran every Friday. Ger has active training sessions of skills, drills and games. He works with the teachers to organise blitzes each term in Killimordaly Hurling Club. In these blitzes the children from the schools are mixed up into different teams and the focus is on participation and enjoyment.
